There's a possibility that they thought of the same subject at the same time, sure. I just find it odd that its happened so many times (and Madascar/Wild seems to be the worst one yet). The Spirt/HOTR thing is kind of a bad example, as Spirit was more like Bambi than anything and HOTR was a zany com...

Yeah, Disney or Pixar aren't completely original either. The thing that makes DreamWorks more outstanding is that almost every time we see a movie from the latter two, DW has one right at the same time that covers the same subject. Antz - A Bug's Life Shark Tale - Finding Nemo Madagascar - The Wild ...

Have you seen their movies, or have you watched them from a perspective of waiting to pounce on them without giving them a chance? I would consider myself an idiot if I were to watch the movies to only try and find something wrong with them. If I'm going to watch something, I'll certainly give it a...

I don't really think Hitch is to blame - that targets a totally different audience. I think the trouble is that parents have probably grown aware of Disney's strategy of releasing these movies, and know they'll be on DVD quite soon. Why go through the trouble of taking the kids to the movies when yo...

Great point about the equivalent costs, Netty. When I eventually start a family of my own, I'll probably be doing the same general thing you're doing. As of right now, I tend to steer clear of blind buys, though. For one, I only have to pay for myself at the theater, and I'll usually only go ...

JM: Did I sound like I was whining? I agree that nothing is completely original in entertainment these days, but DreamWorks seems to be purposely immitating what others do with not much striving for coming up with their own ideas. Pixar may not be the patron-saint of originality, but at least...

First of all, it seems like both you and pinkrenata are finding fault in how I base my judgements and not on what I say. Neither of you quoted my basis for saying why I disliked it, but were quick to pick up on my overall negative judgement. I honestly don't understand what you said there. Why do y...

HaY, better than immitating someone else!!!

Seriously though, Pixar does have somewhat of a "buddy movie" formula, but in my opinion, that's not nearly as bad as what CopyWorks (as Pals likes to call it) is doing.

I don't care if they copy Disney, and I don't think anyone else should, either. As long as it's entertaining, that's okay. But how can you expect a relatively new animation studio not to rely on others for storylines? Pixar is practically as new in the movie business as DreamWorks and you don't see...

Can I judge The Phantom of the Opera? Yes. Why? Not only have I seen the play and the movie, I've seen many other stage musicals. I find your tone very irritating. You tend to state your opinion as if it is the end-all-be-all judgement, as if your viewpoint is the most important one. I make it a po...

Suprisingly, even at the ripe age of 9, while I was very much into Disney stuff, and I collected the Burger King toys and listened to the soundtracks, I never saw Hunchback or Hercules . I only saw them in their entirety as of last year. It was the first time I watched a movie that brought back memo...

You MNers are luckyyyy ! I actually forgot that I had heard about this before, until I went to the official site. Looks like a very interesting film, I'm hoping to see it. Apparently, its going to be released in select theaters hereafter? The 40 minute run-time would make it odd to put in normal the...

Not that suprising of a viewpoint, really. It's typical of Americans to think this way - its ashame they can't view animation the way much of the Asian culture does.

That's not a Goofy Treasures question, that's a good Treasures question! They slapped the new logo & text in front of older cartoons they attached to movies in theaters during the '80s. Not sure why they kept them for the Treasures release though - maybe those versions of the shorts are t...

I liked the original poster better, with the Phantom being in the shadows, and the rose/mask image at the bottom looks soooo tacked on. Ma...

Bah, in my opinion, both Eisner and Jobs are "pretty pathetic" themselves. Stooping to shooting remarks back and forth, as they have been, is just bad business and lowers my opinion of both of them. Besides, neither one really should be speaking on behalf of whatever quality their animator...
