Woah, woah, woah. I did not see this coming at all! 3 discs? Interesting... I have Sullivan's Season One release, and it's 4 discs, three of which are double-sided. They could probably fit more on those sets than they do, although picture quality isn't that great to begin with and they come with bonus features. I wonder if this will be the true season one, and if they order in which they are presented will differ any? I'm also curious about rights issues (I thought Disney could only distribute certain episodes?). Very intriguing, indeed. And crazy as it sounds, I may end up getting this on Disney DVD. If it turns out to be a solid release, I'll hold out on the new Canadian Avonlea releases and wait for Disney's.

I can not wait until November ... I loved this show growing up ...
I remember watching it on Sundays ... at 6 or 7 o'clock ...
I loved Sarah Polley in it ... and Jackie Burroughs as Hetty King was a joy to watch.
This is definitely something to buy ...
Seems like Nov 8 will be an expensive day for me. _________________

Only $34????? For the complete first season? Much better than Sullivan's for $79, even if they do have bonus features.
If it is truly the COMPLETE first season, I will definitely be getting this. Provided it's also available in Canada. _________________ Defy Gravity... |

Season One had 13 episodes, at least in its Canadian run. Assuming they put 4 episodes on each disc, that makes for only 12. Therefore, it seems that they will either (a) cram an extra episode on one of the discs, (b) not present the entire 13 episodes, (c) make at least one of the discs double-sided, or (d) extend this to a 4 disc set.

Disney hasn't experimented with double-sided discs before (don't give them any ideas please LOL -- because those smudge and scratch easier than single-sided ones) ... so I highly doubt they will start for this release ...
When the press release for "Lost" came out ... they said it would be a 6 disc set ... shortly after that it was bumped up to a 7 disc set ...
So I think they will either bump the set up to 4 ... or they will just cram another episode on one of the discs. _________________

I used to love this show when I was a kid. It's by far the best Canadian TV series ever. (Probably the only quality Canadian series ever.) _________________ Conceit spoils the finest genius. WoW! Did y'all see the packaging?! I love the discs being seprerate, I've always hated the opverlapping discs, and I am glad that they finally will be in seperate cases. From the size of the box, the cases look like slim cases, like the packaging FOX uses. I hope Disney continues this type of packaging. It would be cool to see Ducktales and Rescue Rangers along with future relaseses like this. _________________ We need season sets of all DCOSs and all DCOMs on DVD! And Better Cover Art!

Yeah, but the cases actually looked like the fat ones! I hope Disney does not do that. It would be like the size of the Spongebob ones... _________________ Wants Muppet Babies on DVD!!

Actually, Paramount only used the "fat ones" on Spongebob Seasons One and Two. Season three (released Spet 27, 05) will contain the slim cases, if you notice from the new box art released it will be much smaller! I hope Disney uses the slim cases in a cardboard box, I've always LOVED that design! _________________ We need season sets of all DCOSs and all DCOMs on DVD! And Better Cover Art!

Same here. I hate the digi box thing. That's why I refuse to buy any Simpsons box sets. _________________ Wants Muppet Babies on DVD!!

I am a fan of the digipak ... to me it looks better ... it gives it a sleeker design ... and they usually have really nice artwork on them ...
I do not like that Disney put two disks overlapping one another ... some other companies just place one disk per side ...
The slim cases are ok ... but I think digipaks are much nicer. _________________

I'm so excited about this! I've been wanting to purchase the seasons on dvd, but haven't been able to afford them from Sullivan or ebay.
Disney shouldn't have a problem putting 13 episodes on 3 discs. There's no reason they can't put five episodes on one of the discs, because Dawson's Creek on DVD has five and six episodes on each disc and none of the discs are double-sided. in fact, season one of Dawson's Creek has 13 episodes and it's not double-sided. they simply put 5 episodes on one of the discs and had room for special features on one of the other discs.
so hopefully, unless Disney wants some angry fans, they'll make this be the complete season one of Avonlea with bonus features and all (at least all the bonus features that they have rights to if that is a factor). |

I read on two different sites that the new Disney Tales from Avonlea release is going to be only about 400 minutes, which is no where near the length of the actual first season. Disney wouldn't do that, would they??? |

The given runtime right now is 396, which is 44 minutes x 9 episodes. That makes sense using 3 episodes per disc. Most accounts state that Season 1 contains 13 episodes, though and, from what I've read, episodes run closer to 48 minutes on average, with some as long as 58. The likely explanation for the discrepancy is that Disney just arrived at a wrong runtime by using 44 x 9, but unless they fix their mistake for the press release, we might just not know. Typically, the early runtimes they give for their box sets are estimates, which are later revised with an actually accurate number. |

| Wasn't the show called Road to Avonlea (at least that's what I've seen whenever I've watched a rerun)? |
