101 Dalmatians Platinum Edition DVD? Update: March 2008!!!

Post by TheSequelOfDisney »

Hey Luke, or anyone else, how come we don't have any info on the PE? We had a little info in Febuary for TLM, but we don't have anything yet on the PE for Dalmatians.

What does anyone else think will be on the PE?

I'm hoping for a commentary. Likely we'll get one? I don't know, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I also hope that there will be a Disney Song Selection, and a music video for "Cruella De Vil"

i wonder what Disney will come up with?

I think that a commentary would be interesting as well. But it will probably just be the usual, a making of featurette a long with a few games. But to me that isn't very disappointing. I'd just like to see Disney put a little more variety into their bonus features.

I think it's already been done on some other doggy feature from disney. I don't know which one, but I've known it's been done before. Maybe it was Eight Below?

I pray for audio commentaries. They're my favorite bonus feature on any DVD. I hope Mermaid has one, but I don't know if it does. I REALLY hope 101 Dalmatians has one, it's one of my favorite Disney films.

Little known fact...Did you know that the same guy who voiced Roger in 101 Dalmatians was also Grimsby the butler in The Little Mermaid. Grimsby was his last role.

Yeah The Little Mermaid has a commentary (it is shown on one of the menu screen-shots we got).

And yeah, I heard he had to tell them he had played Pongo, because they didn't know.

As far as I know, nothing has been revealed about 101 Dalmatians' Platinum release. To tell the truth, we don't even have confirmation of which movie will be released first: Dalmatians or Jungle Book. I assume we'll find out which one's being released first when The Little Mermaid comes out this Fall, then we'll start getting details on the release a few months from then.

But hey, yeah, I'm always up for a good commentary, so I do hope the PE has one. I wouldn't bet money on it, though, since we haven't been getting that sort of thing for a Walt film since Dumbo, and arguably Bambi. I'm sure Leonard Maltin or John Canemaker would be more than happy to sit down to record one, but the previous Walt film releases lead me to believe that it won't happen.

I actually have another question. Is there any rumors that 101 and 102 Dalmatians (live action) will be re-released in special editions? What about 101 Dalmatians 2?

I think that 101 Dalmatians 2: Patch's London Adventure will come out again near the same time that 101 Dalmatians comes out in all of it's Platinum Edition glory.

I can see Jungle Book getting a MUCH better DVD treatment than Dalmatians, but it wouldn't really matter to me which one is released first. I like them both! I'll be in Disney World (hopefully) to pick up the Spring DVD release :D
But yeah, when are we gonna find out for sure which one we're getting?? It's strange that no info has been given, but the next releases arent as anticipated as the previous few.

Awhile back, someone, I can't remember, said that the restoration for Dalmatians has been completed. But that was awhile ago, so maybe TJB's restoration has been completed too.

Though I like them both, I'm looking forward to the 101 Dalmatians release more than I am The Jungle Book.

Does anyone know if there's truth to the rumor that we'll be seeing a re-release of Peter Pan and Robin Hood next year. I think Robin Hood has already been confirmed but I'm not sure about Peter Pan.

Actually, I think we may see Robin Hood in time for Christmas this year. As for Peter Pan, it's supposed to be released in February, so I think it's going to be the Special Edition that supports Dalmatians' release.

I don't think One Hundred and One Dalmatians will receive a commentary track for the same reasons Pasta mentioned. It seems Disney's policy, now, is that if the directors are dead, no commentary will be made. The only Walt-era film I think might get away with a new commentary track is Pinocchio simply because the other 40s movies have them (if you ignore the anthologies). The 50s is where Disney seems to have dropped the ball. The only two films with commentaries (Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty), have them edited from interview sessions recorded for their "making of" featurettes. I think for Peter Pan's re-release next year (and Sleeping Beauty's in the distant future), Disney should edit the interview outtakes from the commentaries into the featurettes themselves. That way, both films have nice, long documentaries that match other Disney films (Alice in Wonderland withstanding...) instead of the slim featurettes they've got now. Then we could at least say all the (major) 40s films have commentaries while all of the 50s films don't. Most critics think of the 40s as Disney's golden age, anyway, even though I personally prefer the 50s.

What doesn't make sense to me about a Robin Hood re-release is that they haven't even put the Gold Collection version back in the vault yet.

They probably will just so we can have the new edition.
