Prisoner Cell Block H ran for 8 years from 1979 - 1986 across 692 episodes. "The Complete Collection" brings together all 692 episodes on 179 DVDs with a special commemorative book, commissioned for the project all packaged together in a collectible and unique box that every Prisoner fan will want to own.

Yikes that's a lot of discs! I dont think many people can afford that.

Crazy size for one set. But considering the number of discs the price isn't bad at all, and those who "need" to have this will have enough to watch and can probably cut down on DVD purchases for the next year or so.

Wow, if something like this can be released, it stands to reason that Disney could very well do a Mickey Mouse Club: Complete Series or a Disneyland/Walt Disney Presents/Wonderful World of Color/Wonderful World of Disney mammoth set. Of course, they won't. And I'm sure there are more cost-effective ways of releasing those other properties. Still, it's impressive to see a soap opera like this get released in such a fashion. Though the person who can go through that entire set multiple times is superhuman!

Are/have the seasons being/been made available individually too? Edit: Wikipedia answered my question. I guess there are 16-episode sets being released as well.

I just wish my soaps would get released like that. I mean, I'm forever grateful that Dark Shadows is on DVD (40-episode compilations, 26 volumes starting with when Barnabas arrives), but I still want some vintage All My Children and General Hospital!

Still, I know a fellow soap watcher on another board who'd kill for this set!

My word, I knew Prisoner Cell Block H went on for a while, but never realised there were 692 episodes! With each one being and hour long, you'd need to watch about 2 episodes a day for a year to get through that beast!

Imagine watching the whole thing only to get to the last disc and find it was faulty and either the store would not replace it since it had been a year since you bought it, or that you had to replace the entire set!

Escapay I wouldn't mind seeing some vintage Soap Operas make their way to DVD either, but I would rather it be The Young and the Restless. Can you imagine how big those box sets would be? Roughly 250 hour-long episodes per year multiplied by 33 years (for Y&R)... that's a LOT of DVDs!!

You'd think for 179 discs, they'd throw in a disc of bonus material and make it a round 180 discs!

That's crazy.

Prisoner was a long-running Aussie TV series which was alternatively controversial, the butt of a joke (women's prisons...) and endlessly re-run.

I can't imagine any Australians forking out that much, let alone anybody else! However, I do understand it had a big following overseas, especially the UK.

Wow...as much as I hate the show, I'm glad Australia has something to add to it's tourism advertisements. "Come to Australia, we now have DVD's"

Wow, weren't they releasing them by season? I really think that this is going to blow up in their faces, there is absolutely no Australian that I know of that would pay thousands of dollars for a soap that hasn't been on the air in decades, and wasn't terribly good either, from what I've heard. Not to mention how large the set wood be, you'd need a whole shelf for it. They won't sell much with this. They should just put out a best of, with that chick burning the prisoner or something. This just won't sell.

I didn't really say he were, but fun nonetheless!

Amazon used to have an exclusive Star Trek collection which included:

20 discs--All 10 movies
48 discs--All 7 Seasons TNG
22 discs--All 3 Sesons Original Series
47 discs--All 7 Seasons Voyager
27 discs--All 4 Seasons Enterprise
48 discs--All 7 Seasons DS9

212 Discs for I believe $1500. Not a bad per disc price ($7)

Now, you would have another 4 discs for the animated series. Total of 216 discs from that franchise. Does that beat the 179 disc series?

I guess they'd have to come in one big box...

I thought I would bump this because there's a picture now. They all comes in a briefcase (and CD cases? paper sleeves? It's not quite clear).
