Click here for the full Meet the Robinsons DVD press release.

According to UD's main page, the DVD has been pushed back to October 23rd. It'll contain the following features:

* Audio Commentary by Director Stephen Anderson
* Deleted Scenes
* "Inventing the Robinsons" Featurette
* "Keep Moving Forward: Inventions That Shaped the World" Featurette
* "Little Wonders" Music Video Performed by Rob Thomas
* "Kids of the Future" Music Video Performed by the Jonas Brothers
* "Family Function 5000" Family Tree Set-Top Game

The Blu-Ray version will be released on the same date and contain all of these as well as more deleted scenes (?!) and a "Bowler Hat Barrage" set-top game.

I was hoping that with the release date pushed back and having an abnormally large window between theatrical and DVD releases, Disney would've added more features than we were shown in the UK specs list (well, besides the music videos). It sounds like an okay disc overall, but I still wish there was an art gallery and a detailed featurette concerning the movie's approach to time travel. Hopefully the commentary and "Inventing the Robinsons" featurette cover a lot of ground (the "Keep Moving Forward" featurette doesn't seem to be directly about the film). Anyway, I'll certainly be picking this up as it's my 2nd favorite film of the year, and the fact that it comes out the day before my birthday isn't so bad, either.

Cover art for the Blu-Ray version can be found here:

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/coverart.html#oct23

While I generally like it, I think red isn't the right color choice for the cover. Most of the film takes place under sunny skies, so a sky blue motiff with clouds would've been more appropriate. Still, it's pretty decent, even if Lewis' hero pose is kind of corny.

Not a bad cover, but the background makes it seem like they are on the surface of the sun. (The future: global warming!)

I really wish MTR would get more bonus features, it deserves more than what it contains right now. But I guess the Audio Commentary is something at least.

Ditto. At least the commentary isn't a Blu-Ray exclusive like the one for Chicken Little *grumbles*

And the whole "deleted scenes on DVD, more of them on Blu-Ray" makes sense, since more people prefer deleted materials to documentaries. So it's one of the hooks for people to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

I'm just hoping "Inventing the Robinsons" isn't an 18-minute fluffpiece like on Chicken Little or Home on the Range. Please, please, please, please, please...let it be a nice 45-or-60-minute documentary.

Hey, that's better than that 4-minute "Worship This Movie or We'll Stick it Where it Hurts" featurette on the Oliver & Company DVD. Now that, my friend, was horrid.

I do agree with you both about the art galleries. Every animated film, especially one like Meet the Robinsons, deserves an art gallery. I guess I'll just go sit in a corner and weep while I pop Bon-Bons...pardon me, Dibbs (that name change still pisses me off)...until Disney changes their mind (so in other words, I'll be popping Dibbs until I explode, because it'll never happen). Sad

I'm actually contemplating whether or not I should purchase both the DVD and Blu-Ray disc at the same time. I'm thinking that my family will probably be getting a Blu-Ray player within the next year, so would it be a wise decision to start purchasing these films now so that my collection is fairly decent by the time we get one? Or would I just be wasting my money (while becoming Disney's new best friend at the same time Laughing)?

Can't wait for this DVD, as I loved the movie. I'm most looking forward to the audio commentary, which has a lot of potential, as I think there's a lot for the filmmakers to say about this movie. I'm particularly interested in what was going on behind the scenes in relation to this movie on the corporate level. I'm hoping either Anderson or the featurette include some of that.

Speaking of the featurette, I'm really anticipating it too. DK, you mentioned the UK specs list. I couldn't find it in a forum/site search. Did it mention how long the featurette is for R2? I'm hoping we get something substantial, but kind of doubt it.

I'm actually really looking forward to the music videos too. Oftentimes, I can take them or leave them, but I love this soundtrack so much that I only wish there were more than just these two.

As for the Blu-Ray cover art, it's okay, but a little simplistic and it does rather make this look like a sequel to The Incredibles.

Thanks for the front page news, Luke, and the thread, Kelvin.

I'm kind of excited for Meet the Robinsons to arrive on DVD. I never made it to the theater to see the film because I heard mixed reviews. I am pretty sure I won't care for the film too much, as the story doesn't seem too appealing, and I much prefer the 2D animation to the CGI. However, I still would like to have seen a 2 disc release for this movie. I will definately rent the movie and give it a once over to check it out.

The push back date is my dad's birthday. I was hoping it'd still be in September for a release. Sad

I don't know if its fair that the Blu-Ray version gets more deleted scenes. I like having lots of special features and I want to see ALL the deleted scenes, but I am not ready to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

I'll echo the disappointment that more deleted scenes are being held back for the Blu-ray version. If there is something which is not technologically able to be included on the standard DVD version, it is fine for them to include it on Blu, but otherwise I find it a little bit insulting. I want the film, but I do not have the means to play the Blu-ray so I *have to* go with the standdard release. Oh well. I'm sure the additional deleted scenes will find their way onto YouTube or something sooner or later.

Otherwise, this sounds like a fairly well-packed disc, when considering the level of box office that the film had. And better than Chicken Little (the commentary is on the standard-def, whoa! Laughing), which is cool. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised to see this get this good of a disc considering that Chicken Little did much better numbers. But I'm not complaining. Also, in Disney's defense, I expect the Chicken Little commentary was recorded after the standard-def release was already out and had to be a Blu exclusive unless they also wanted to double dip the DVD. (And including just that as a lone upgrade incentive would probably not have swayed enough people to make it worthwhile for them to do.

Anyway, back to Robinsons, I don't like the cover too much, personally. Maybe once we see a fuller picture (the standard release) it will grow on me. Regardless, I loved the film very much and will definately be getting this. I'm excited to see it again and to hear the commentary because I understand the film was a very personal one for Anderson. I'd also be interested in hearing how John Lassater, et.al influenced the film after the merger.

Ichabod posted them in the review thread for the film. Since they didn't come from the BBFC, they don't have running times:

Inventing The Robinsons (Making of)
Out-takes
Deleted Scenes
Audio Commentary from the director Stephen Anderson plus as characters from the film he voiced!
Family Tree Game
Easter Eggs: Exclusive to this DVD, 4 short interviews with some of the characters from the film.

It seems the UK DVD gets outtakes while we don't. Now whether these are Pixar type of outtakes or technical goof outtakes remains to be seen. Their release doesn't seem to have the music videos or the general featurette on inventions. I fully expect ours to have the easter eggs, though.

Oh, and for those wondering, director Stephen Anderson voiced Bowler Hat Guy, Tallulah, and Grandpa Bud, so expect them to make appearances in the commentary. I just hope most of the commentary is Anderson seriously speaking about the film, though. I wouldn't mind if he seriously commented on the first and last third and then brought in the voices for the crazy middle third.

I hope the commentary will be mostly about the film and serious too but I won't be surprised if little light-hearted comments are made during the commentary, actually I'd be surprise if there weren't but I do hope it gives depth and insight to some of the behind the scenes of that scene.

I'm actually looking forward mostly to the "Keep Moving Forward: Inventions That Shaped the World" Featurette. I liked that whole part where they did the vintage cartoon at the beginning and then tied it in the movie, though you didn't know till the end with the quote from Walt Disney. It made it so much more personal and seemly more heartfelt. I could be mistaken, but I think this featurette has something to do with that, and I can't wait to learn more.

Oh yeah -- I hope they include Boat Builders (and Working For Peanuts, if they can do it in a 2-D form) on here. I have Boat Builders already on the Mickey Mouse in Living Color tin, but it should be included on this disc so we can replicate the theatrical experience by watching the short first.

I'm quite looking forward to this film on DVD. Considering it made less than even Chicken Little, it's not surprising the treatment it's receiving, although it is still disappointing. I hope the docu featurette is longer than 5 minutes and more than just a fluff piece. I predicted word of mouth would save the film in the theatres, which didn't quite happen, but I think we can all blame Disney's marketing department for missing that opportunity. That said, I predict here and now that MTR will grow legs on DVD, something similar to the success Brother Bear enjoyed once it was available for home video. And, IMHO, MTR was better than Brother Bear Cool

I am so mad that I have to wait until October to buy this film as I Really loved it and that cover is horrible red is not a good background color for the film and Lewis' Hero pose is just downright awful

Agreed. I was disappointed by the movie's lackluster box office performance but do believe it stands a good chance of success on DVD. It's definitely superior to Brother Bear.

They included a 2-D "Working for Peanuts" in CCFV4, so I'm sure it can be done for MTR.

Yeah, that probably was the case, but I wouldn't mind double-dipping on Chicken Little Very Happy They could've included the trailers, the additional Blu-Ray deleted scenes, and a couple more featurettes to make it worth it! Wink

I'll probably pick this up on DVD, but, I think it sucks that Disney is putting extra content on the Blu-Ray release. Not everyone has, nor wants, a Blu-Ray player. That's another reason I hate this whole HD battle. They are going to offer incentives, that could be included on the standard definition DVD, to the HD releases, to try to intice people to upgrade. All the while, the majority of people are happy with DVD, and don't need to feel pressured into upgrading to one or the other, because the studios decide to offer more content on the HD releases. That really sucks.

Why is Disney and Pixar pushing for blue ray so much, in comparison. No other companies, that I know of, are giving Blue Ray special treatment. Its not just with the special features though either, having blue ray of a Disney DVD is triple the amount of disney movie reward points compared to a regular DVD.
