BURBANK, Calif., June 9, 2003 – Goodbye home! Hello Rome! Walt Disney Pictures’ theatrical hit, THE LIZZIE McGUIRE MOVIE, comes to Disney DVD and VHS on August 12th, from Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Produced by Stan Rogow, Executive produced by David Roessell and Terri Minsky. On Disney DVD for $29.99 (S.R.P.) and on VHS for $22.99 (S.R.P.).

In THE LIZZIE McGUIRE MOVIE, lovable Lizzie McGuire and her classmates Gordo, Kate and Ethan take a trip to Italy to experience la dolce vita, and some awesome pizza! In a whirlwind of hilarious comedy, Lizzie is mistaken for Italy’s biggest pop diva, Isabella, and falls for Paolo, Isabella’s handsome singing partner. Now, it’s up to Lizzie to embrace new-found courage and do things she never thought possible.

Hilary Duff is quickly becoming one of Holywood’s fastest rising stars. A Kids’ Choice Award winner and one of E!’s “Sizzlin’ 16,” Duff is also a singing sensation, as the “Lizzie McGuire” Soundtrack – featuring her hit single, “I Can’t Wait” – has been certified gold by the RIAA. The dynamic young actress has garnered world-wide recognition as the star of Disney Channel’s international hit series “Lizzie McGuire,” in which she portrays a teen navigating the turbulence of middle school cliques, trendy styles and rites of passage while her animated, brassy alter ego gives running commentary.

You know, I've no idea who Hilary Duff is, not having seen a Lizzie McGuire ever (it's shown on Saturday morning television in the UK when I'm out doing the main weekly shop) but seeing this

Behind The Scenes of Hilary Duff’s New Pop Album

Makes me think that ignorance is bliss!

Hahaha! Laughing

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Coming from a country which has a proud heritage of soapie stars going on to "sing" (and I for one would like to apologize of behalf of Australia for Neighbours and Home & Away), I couldn't help but cringe at the thought of that supplement.

I'm taking a punt this weekend on Snow Dogs (rental) but I think Lizzie is even too much for me to take.

Well having seen the show and just the trailer from the movie, it's not entirely fair to lump the two together. The show is actually a pretty clever and witty sitcom, and its creators put in lots of subtle (and not-so-subtle) references to classic movies and shows all the time. On the other hand, the movie looked like some Olsen Twins teeny bop movie where the focus was entirely on Lizzie (and some Italian guy) and not on school or family.

I have seen many episodes of the show with my little brother. It's creative and original, about a middle school student who puts up with all the normal annoyances of early teen life. Every once in a while they show her thoughts via an animated version of Lizzie. Disney tried to turn Hilary Duff into a modern day Annette Funicello. Hilary is not a great singer by any means, but with digital effects, they made her voice listenable. Because of her popularity on Radio Disney, Disney turned the movie into a story about Lizzie McGuire becoming a European popstar. I saw the movie and the trailors made it look worse than it is. You should definately see an episode of the show before buying it.

Here's the supplements form the UK BBFC website (for non-UK readers, the BBFC is the British Board of Film Classification and like the MPAA rates movies. However unlike the MPAA, in the UK movies (and supplements) have to be rated seperately for Home Video).

Anyhow it gives an idea of the runtimes (times are in Hours, Minutes, Seconds, 100th Seconds):

00:02:13:11 | BONUS: MUSIC VIDEO - PART 1 OF 1
00:00:45:22 | BONUS DELETED SCENES - BONUS MATERIAL - INTRO BY JIM FALL - KIDS COMING OFF THE PLANE
00:00:24:05 | LANGUAGE: ENGLISH - DELETED SCENE - KIDS COMING OFF THE PLANE
00:01:04:06 | BONUS MATERIAL - INTRO BY JIM FALL - LIZZIE'S SHOPPING SPREE
00:01:55:01 | DELETED SCENE - LIZZIE'S SHOPPING SPREE
00:01:06:16 | BONUS MATERIAL - INTRO BY JIM FALL - LIZZIE KISSES GORDO
00:02:03:06 | LANGUAGE: ENGLISH - DELETED SCENE - LIZZIE KISSES GORDO
00:02:13:06 | BONUS MATERIAL - VESPA MONTAGE
00:11:50:00 | BONUS: HILARY'S ROMAN ADVENTURE - REVISED

Rather underwhelming. I wonder why the Roman Adventure was revised. Either Disney decided to re-edit it, or the BBFC asked for cuts. Does Hilary do a mean headbutt? Smile

The Behind The Scenes of Hilary Duff’s New Pop Album featurette doesn't seem to be included which either means

1) More is to come

or (more likely I hope)

2) The British have more sense and the Album won't even be released in the UK!

Shopping spree? That sounds interesting. The deleted scene "Lizzie Kisses Gordo" sounds cute. Smile
