Never saw it, and probably won't get it. I may give it a rental though. Not sure.
The supplements at least sound good. |

| It's funny Disney goes to the effort of releasing two editions of this mega flop but can't release a two-disc set of "Home on the Range", which we all know will sell much better. Even the supplements sound better than "Home on the Range"! |

What does that mean? You are renting or buying? So buying is a bad thing, but renting is the wrong answer too? I'm confused... (and a little scared)
Anyhoo, that was fast!!!
Hasn't even hit theatres here yet (nor has Home on the Range for that matter). I may pick this up for the Jackie Chan content, although it does look kind of silly.
I'm also a collector of anything that has the words "Sylvia School Children’s Choir" on it. _________________ DVDBits - News, Reviews and More! | Bitcast! - My Podcast |HKDL Source - Hong Kong Disneyland Fansite | Twitter - Follow me on Twitter |

Well, no one at Disney's video branch has a lick of sense.
It has been widely rumored for months now - nearly confirmed - that DreamWorks will release Shrek 2 on DVD on November 5th. (That's a Friday, the same day that Disney ushers in The Incredibles.) no one in their right mind will buy a piece of (CENSORED) like Around the World in 80 Days when they can get a superrior movie, superrior DVD and cheaper price by going with Shrek 2.
Nice DVD sales numbers are what this movie needs in order to turn a profit eventually. When in direct competition with the year's highest grossing and one of the year's best-loved films, both vying for the family market, Shrek 2 will win out and 80 Days will be lucky to sell 80 copies combined WS, FS DVD and VHS.
Well, it's a piece of (CENSORED) anyway so what do I care But you'd think some of that would occur to the marketing department and home entertainment division? _________________ My modest collection of little silver movie discss |

Jake - actually I am not sure about that logic. The entertainment industry has done a lot of research about release patterns. I think they have found if they release one family DVD and another is sitting right beside it on the shelfs, the second one is more likely to be purchased. That is, if Dreamworks markets Shrek 2 to the hilt and people show up to buy it, if Around the World is sitting right by it then people who never would have even be visiting the store if it were not for Shrek will also buy Around the World.
I believe in the industry it is referred to as the Thriller effect coming from Michael Jacksons ultra mega selling album. Sales of other R&B albums spiked when Thriller peaked because that album was drawing in lots of people who did not normally frequent record stores. As long as they were there, they may as well pick up some more stuff as well. _________________ Disneyland Trips - 07/77, 07/80, 07/83, 05/92, 05/96, 05/97, 06/00, 11/00, 02/02, 06/02, 11/02, 04/06, 01/07, 07/07, 11/07,11/08, 07/09

Is that opinion based on how it looked or how it performed at the box office? Because I know you didn't see the film. |

I am deffinatley looking forward to getting this film for my collection. I thought it was a very well put together remake of the original film of which I am also a big fan of. I thought it wa an interesting retelling of the story and very much enjoyed it. I also thought that the actors all were very well selected for their parts. Even Govenor Schwarzenager (??Spelling??) I never take movie reviews to seriously because most of the movies they proclaim to be a floop is most enjoyable to me but I would reccomend this film to everyone, atleast to see once. _________________

| I know that before I had booed this movie. But I recently saw some clips from the movie over the internet. And I had to say I was impressed. I can't wait for this to be released on DVD. As Mario Lanza once sang. "Boom Biddy Boom Boom, Oh How My Heart Sings, Boom Biddy Boom Boom, Oh How My Heart Says" |

Umm... Luke you don't have to see Around the World in 80 Days to know the film suck just look at the preview it was horrible.
I said I was going to rent it first before I'll think about buying it.
If it performed bad at the box office what does that mean it means it's not worth customers money. _________________ The Simpsons Season 11 Buy it Now!

it did! the previews did not do the film any justice. The film was amazing comparred to the preview and there is no possible way that you can judge the movie without seeing the actual film. _________________ We need season sets of all DCOSs and all DCOMs on DVD! And Better Cover Art!

MMP, I think it's completely unfair to judge a movie solely on previews. When I first saw a preview for Pirates of the Caribbean I thought it looked terrible, but when my brother went to see it I tagged along, and ended up loving it. |
