The Extinct Attractions Discussion Series: Horizons
Part One - Alien Encounter
Part Two - Horizons

Statistics (from intercot)
Closed in early 1999, Horizons was a look at the future, at least from 1983's point of view.

Horizons, like all attractions, went through several concept revisions before the attraction premiered. It was originally called Century 3 and then Futureprobe during the planning stages.

The inspiriation behind Horizons was Carousel of Progress, and its theme song could be heard at one point in the ride.

I remember this attraction, and I know that I rode it several times in my youth, but I can't really remember what the heck it was inside. Sorry!

I remember the theme music, mainly. "Horizons...where dreams do come true!" I must've been one of the last few people to ride this before it closed. I think it was replaced by Mission to Mars (Space or whatever). I also believe this was the one where you got to choose which way your riding car could finish by land, sea, or air. It had some neat rooms with IMAX-like projections that really enveloped you...and could make you sick.

I know I've visited this attraction, but I can't remember any of it now. Does anybody else know the details?

This ride used to ROCK! It was mainly scenes of audio-animatronics living in different climates. I think there were three: space, the ocean, and the desert. And then, as mentioned before, you got to choose which climate you wanted to visit at the end, and a movie screen came in front of your vehicle, which I thought was totally awesome when I was younger. I can somewhat understand why they got rid of it, as it was getting rather outdated (especially the 1980s theme song), but I was sad to see it go. I have many fond childhood memories of this ride.
